The world may have to reevaluate the concept of “freedom” if we keep shutting down voices that are different, referring in particular to Western cultural waves. If you are to value diversity, acceptance, and tolerance, then you must also apply these principles to ideas and expression. You can’t expect anyone to have respect for you if you slander someone just because their beliefs are different. In some cases it doesn’t end in slander, there are then actions taken against dissidents just for being dissidents. The ignorant masses then raise their voices, adding to the cultural furor that is founded on ignorance. People who typically remain neutral in such disagreements are being animated. That is a sign of how these phenomena are disrupting a peaceful society. Interestingly enough, the people who usually remain neutral and peaceable are more knowledgeable than those who do everything in their power to display their ignorant fury in order to change things for the worse. The truth stands by itself, on its own, and people do not care to listen to it. Sometimes the truth is so plain that people take it upon themselves to dig for meanings and intentions that were never there from the start. The majority of citizens want peace, but the ignorant are creating wars instead. Movements are good, if they are based on being an informed citizen. The truth, fortunately, is the one thing that can’t change no matter how many times ignorant people try to change the rules.
“To kill an error is as good a service as, and sometimes even better than, the establishing of a new truth or fact.” -Darwin
